Brothers We Stand: How sustainable is it?

We are not only big fans of Brothers We Stand’s style, but also its frank way of talking. Each item has a footprint tab detailing its social and environmental impact – what it does great and, importantly, what it can do better.

The brand is also conscious of its own environmental footprint. To avoid flying, Brothers We Stand t-shirts are transported by boat from Bangladesh to Belgium. They are then taken by truck to the UK, and they use plastic free and 100% recyclable packaging.

When it comes to the notoriously low and highly controversial wages paid in the fashion factories across the world, founder of Brothers We Stand, Jonathan Mitchell says:

“The people who make our clothes are our ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ in humanity. I set up Brothers We Stand in solidarity with them and to provide others with an opportunity to support a more ethical and sustainable fashion industry. Clothes are great but they shouldn’t come at the cost of people or planet.”

With the bar set so low, in order to be a force for good in the garment industry, the website requires brands to be paying at least the legal minimum wage.

Its noble mission is to ensure people who make their clothes receive a fair return for their labour, as consumers we don’t destroy the environment with our buying habits, and that all of us find joy in a better world.
