Planton Farm: What is it?

Set among 80 acres of ancient trees and rolling pastureland in Shropshire, Planton Farm is a working regenerative farm led by Clare and Rupert Hill. Here, the couple raise pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle on 100% pasture and slow-growing organic chickens that are moved to fresh ground every day. Every element of the farm is designed to restore soil health, enhance biodiversity, and ensure the highest standards of animal welfare.

Planton supplies its nutrient-dense beef, chicken, and eggs directly to homes across the UK through its online shop, offering everything from everyday essentials like mince and chicken thighs to premium cuts such as ribeye steaks and brisket. Local customers can also find the team at the Local to Ludlow market on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.

It’s a place to buy nourishing, ethically raised food, learn how it’s grown, and see a different kind of farming in action. One that works with nature, not against it.

Planton Farm: How Sustainable is it?

Sustainability is woven into every part of Planton Farm’s operation. The cattle are raised on a 100% forage diet of pasture and hay and are kept together as a single family herd, practising natural weaning and living outdoors for at least 280 days a year. The farm is Pasture for Life certified, in organic conversion with OF&G, and verified through Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) to track genuine improvements in soil and biodiversity.

Chickens are slow-growing Hubbard birds, reared outdoors on organic pastures and rotated daily to forage fresh grasses, herbs, and insects. This practice not only produces flavourful, healthy meat but also builds soil fertility and spreads natural impact across the farm. Processing takes place at the nearest certified organic abattoir using electrical stunning.

Planton also leads in ethical poultry innovation through its Impeckable Poultry project, exploring dual-purpose breeds for a fairer and more sustainable future for both eggs and meat.

Beyond production, the farm’s Roots to Regeneration accelerator supports others in transitioning to regenerative systems, creating a ripple effect of positive change across the food system.
