Lab grown diamond engagement rings: 10 questions you should ask before you buy
Purscents: What is it?
Purscents is dedicated to crafting luxurious, nature-inspired home fragrances that elevate both your living space and wellbeing, while minimising waste. They stand out from high-street alternatives for two reasons – the first, they exclusively use natural fragrances and don’t mix them with synthetic ones. The second is that they offer innovative refill pouches that are 100% home compostable. Simply melt the wax, pour it into your existing jar, and enjoy the same premium scents without the waste.
Founded by Maame Sarpong, the brand was born out of her love for candles and the realisation of the amount of waste they generated. Growing up in Ghana, Maame witnessed the damaging effects of deforestation and plastic pollution first-hand, shaping her mission to integrate sustainability into the heart of Purscents.
Maame shares: “We’re not perfect, far from it, actually. But we’re genuine in what we aim to do. We want to be recognised for our actions, not just our talk, that is why our core brand values include: quality, handmade, small-batches, high-quality ingredients.”
Purscents reflects Maame’s cultural roots of rich colours, textures, and natural beauty and unwavering commitment to sustainability. Purscents help you to create spaces and experiences that are both beautiful and kind to the planet.

Purscents: How Sustainable is it?
Purscents’ commitment to zero waste informs every part of their process. Using sustainably sourced ingredients free from hidden toxins, they ensure every component is either recycled, recyclable, reusable, compostable or biodegradable.
With over 35 million candle jars ending up in landfill each year, Purscents aims to redefine home fragrance by embracing the circular economy — a shift from traditional, single-use products to sustainable ones that minimise waste. A standout example is their refillable candle pouches in compostable packaging. Made from a blend of UK-sourced rapeseed and coconut wax, their refills are paraffin-free, phthalate-free, contain 100% essential oils, and are soy-free and vegan-friendly.
Their cotton wicks, coated with vegetable wax, are bleach-and lead-free. Purscents’ diffusers use 100% rattan reeds and a biodegradable, bio-based solvent derived from renewable resources.
Designed for longevity, their jars and bottles are 96% plastic-free and food–safe, perfect for repurposing as stylish storage in the home.
All candles and refills are produced in-house by Purscents in London, ensuring complete quality control and a focus on sustainable production from start to finish. They use only 100% essential oils and plant extracts for scent, avoiding soy wax due to its high carbon footprint and difficulty sourcing non-GMO varieties. Instead, they use rapeseed grown in the UK and Europe for its low carbon footprint, and coconut wax from smallholder farms in the Philippines and Indonesia, where no forest clearing is required.
Purscents proudly partners with Environment360 in Accra, Ghana, which drives community recycling and technical training for green jobs. They also support The Felix Project in London, a charity fighting hunger and reducing food waste. Purscents donates 3% of all online sales to these charities, funding critical initiatives and increasing their impact. Throughout the year, they also organise fundraising events to raise awareness and support for these causes.
