Solios Watches: What is it?

Solios Watches has stepped up the watch game with their collection of stylishly minimalist watches featuring an innovative solar design. Their watches are understated and elegant, available in a range of neutral, muted colours as well as rose gold and silver. Brilliantly, their straps are also interchangeable.

Founders, Sam and Alex, created Solios because they wanted to have a positive impact. Being watch fanatics, they know a watch means much more than the object itself – they become an extension of your identity and a permanent fixture of your style.

They say: “A Solios is meant for anyone who wants to wear their values on their wrist.”

Solios Watches: How sustainable is it?

At the core of the values a Solios watch represents is sustainability. Their solar watches are all powered by clean, renewable energy (solar) and built with components that are easy on the environment. They are the first and only B Corp Certified watch company.

The watches themselves are made from three key materials:

1. Eco silicone-based leather, which uses non toxic by-products, no solvents, is free of PU and PVC, and heavy metals

2. Cork inlay in their vegan leather straps, to avoid the use of rubber traditionally found in leather straps

3. Certified recycled stainless steel for their cases

Solios even take care with their packaging materials during the manufacturing process and have replaced all plastic protection for the watches with reusable cloth, invested in recycled, recyclable and reusable cardboard to transport the watches and straps, and prevented their suppliers from using any single-use plastic in the transportation process.

For their packaging, they work with Madovar, a Canadian based supplier focusing on sustainable luxury in the packaging industry and use FSC certified recycled and recyclable cardboard. They use eco-friendly alternatives to protective casing like a cork pillow and recycled plastic that is used to hold the watch in place.

Their manufacturers are equally committed to fair pay and treatment of their employees.

For every watch sold, Solios donate 1% of each sale to support the Rainforest Trust foundation, which protects one acre of Rainforest. They also have a limited edition watch that supports the Make-a-Wish Canada foundation.
