Jiwya: What is it?
Jiwya is an Indian fashion brand shipping globally for men, women and gender neutral apparel that celebrates the power of regenerative materials and the artistry of the human hand.
At its heart, Jiwya aims to create clothing that honours the body, skin, textures, and shapes, while embracing Indian textile traditions and living in harmony with nature. Their clothes are 100% plant-based and their designs feature custom plant-derived colours and the softest plant-based fibres, resulting in pieces that look unique and feel luxurious.
On their website, Jiwya offers a stunning range of clothing and home décor that embodies the essence of good craftsmanship. From their breathable, organic cotton summer sets to intricate pieces like a tufted puffer jacket crafted using the Sujani weave, each item tells a story. Their home décor collection, featuring wall hangings and tapestries, adds a one-of-a-kind touch of heritage and artistry to any space.
With their Re:Jiwya programme, you gain a lifetime subscription to repair, revamp, or reintroduce your pieces. Instead of discarding used items, you can return them to Jiwya in exchange for store credit. Jiwya will then responsibly upcycle or compost the product, ensuring it is given a new life and minimising waste.
Their work shines a spotlight on India’s rich artisanal heritage, plant-based compassion, creating timeless designs that value quality, experience, and storytelling over fleeting trends. The artisans that collaborate with Jiwya are chosen for their commitment to preserving and reviving traditional textile arts across India. Working together, they ensure the legacy of these traditions in plant-based, sustainable forms.

Jiwya: How Sustainable is it?
Born from a desire create truly sustainable fashion, Jiwya is weaving a future where fashion exists without compromising the planet, its people, or animals.
In 2022, founders Aishwarya and Adhiraj, both textile scientists, left their careers in the US to embark on a mission to transform the fashion industry.
Aishwarya explains: “There are countless resources and solutions available but the textile industry is resistant to real change. It’s dominated by greenwashing, fleeting trends, low-quality production, and toxic dyes, all contributing to 10% of global carbon emissions and unmanageable waste. As textile scientists, we grew tired of trying to fix things from the inside. Instead, we decided to take matters into our own hands and lead by example.”
Every step of Jiwya’s process reflects a commitment to ethical fashion from fabric to finish. Their work showcases the intricacy of generational artisanal knowledge while uplifting the artisans who bring the raw materials and fabrics to life.
Based in Nashik, India, Jiwya manufactures everything in-house. Fabrics and raw materials are verified by visiting the homes and workshops of over 150+ artisans throughout India multiple times to build personal, lasting relationships. This close connection ensures every metre of fabric is made with care and respect for the workers.
Jiwya’s onboarding process includes a strict audit to align their workers’ values with the brand’s ethos, ensuring the highest standards of ethics and fairness. The company is proud to pay artisans 15-20% above industry wages, recognising the power of human hands and the intimate connection to the soil that make this work possible.
Their heirloom-quality pieces are made from 100% ethically sourced, sustainable fabrics such as Dry Farm Cotton, Khadi, Linen, Jute, Hemp, Banana, Bamboo and Nettle, fibres that grow naturally without pesticides or excessive water use. Jiwya also partners with small local businesses for materials like buttons and dyes, ensuring that every aspect of production supports the local economy and minimises waste.
All embellishments are crafted in-house at Jiwya HQ using a zero-waste production model, and packaging materials including recycled paper, cotton thread and biodegradable ink are sourced from local startups.
Animal products are never used, and all yarns, dyes and designs are entirely plant-based. Jiwya follows a bio-circular fashion economy, where everything from fabric to packaging can be reused, repaired or composted, reducing environmental impact at every stage.
Their commitment to sustainability extends to their manufacturing processes, where water usage is minimised to a tenth of conventional textile methods. The water used is repurposed to nourish the garden soil. Additionally, most artisans and farmers live in rural areas with low electricity access, so Jiwya operates with minimal energy consumption, relying on local electricity sources.
Co-founder Aishwarya is also deeply involved in climate action and women’s advocacy, participating in climate circles such as She for Climate, Climate Collective, and Project Dandelion.
