Tarro Skincare: What is it?
Tarro grew from a simple belief: that the best skincare starts at the farm, not in a laboratory.
Founder Julie Morrow handcrafts the majority of her products in Hertfordshire using pasture-fed tallow from British-farm partners as their base.
Tallow is a natural, nutrient-rich fat traditionally purified from beef or sheep, making use of a part of the animal that isn’t traditionally sold as prime meat. The important points to note here are that Tarro Skincare uses only tallow from 100% grass-fed animals, from farms that prioritise animal welfare and work in tune with nature.
Julie explains how this not only creates effective skincare but also honours the whole animal and aligns with values of sustainability, simplicity, and ancestral wisdom:
“Few ingredients have stood the test of time quite like tallow. Before lab-made lotions and synthetic serums, our ancestors turned to simple, powerful substances straight from nature. Tallow was one of the most effective. It was historically used in cold climates to shield skin from harsh winds and retain moisture in the skin’s barrier layer.
“Tallow from grass-fed animals is particularly prized in skincare due to its high content of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and stearic acid-compounds known for their skin-nourishing and anti-inflammatory properties.”
Julie blends tallow with carefully chosen plant oils, sourced from organic farms across Europe. As such, each product tells a story of connection with the land.

Tarro Skincare: How sustainable is it?
Julie knows the name of every farmer she sources her tallow from, regularly visiting the farms to collect it (along with other ingredients such as honey and chamomile) in person.
The farms are Pasture-for-Life Certified or Organic or both; Tarro Skincare requires that no fertilisers or sprays are used on the pastures the animals graze.
Julie handmakes the tallow-based skincare products at her home workshop in Hertfordshire. A small selection of additional plant-based products are produced by Naturally Balmy located in Dorset.
The additional ingredients she uses such as almond-, argan-, avocado- and olive-oils are sourced from certified-organic suppliers across Europe.
Tarro packaging includes aluminium tins and cardboard lip tubes, which are recyclable. They offer a return and reuse scheme on the tins; customers can request a return label with their order for when they have five or more tins to return. As a reward for doing this, customers receive a free balm in their next order.
While PET-plastic is used currently for the facial oil and deodorants, Julie plans to change this to aluminium once orders grow and minimum order quantities allow her to do so.
Julie personally delivers products within a five-mile radius of her home, and uses Royal Mail to post the rest of her orders across the UK in recycled boxes and paper wrapping that she keeps from ingredient suppliers.
Tarro Skincare’s workshops are fully inclusive, providing both halal tallow or vegan options.
