Denim Star®: What is it?

There are socks that you wear every day because, you know, you need to wear socks.

Then there are socks you rock as an accessory to your outfit.

Denim Star specialises in these socks. They make ankle socks, knee socks, and over-the-knee socks. They all have one common thread – they are meticulously crafted to elevate your denim style.

Founder Emma Brown, says:

“When it comes to our wardrobes there are many of us who have ‘go to’ indigo and mid-wash denims. For the 26 years I’ve been in the fashion industry this hasn’t changed. Trends come and go, but we always reach for our faithful denims and jeans, so why not have denim coloured socks to complement them?”

Denim Star prioritise durability and sustainability, using GOTS certified Organic Cotton fibre for their socks.

They look stylish and they feel great, too. With honeycomb sock tops that provide a snug fit without pinching your skin, seamless toes to prevent friction, and reinforced heels and toes for long-lasting wear, these socks prioritise comfort.

The Indigo sock range is perfect for styling with indigo and mid-wash coloured denims and the Stone Wash sock range is designed to complement mid-wash, stone wash, and white coloured denims.

Denim Star®: How sustainable is it?

“Within the heart of Denim Star’s philosophy lies a profound recognition of its impact on both individuals and the planet,” says Brown. “With this paramount consideration, I felt compelled to create something enduring, essential, and pragmatic.”

Denim Star are a celebration of conscious fashion choices and challenge the conventional notion of a one-stop shop for a complete capsule wardrobe. Instead, the brand advocates for supporting niche brands.

Their dedication to ethical and sustainable principles is reflected in several key areas:

Material Sourcing: Denim Star prioritises the use of GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified Organic Cotton for its sock production. This cotton is spun and dyed in Italy without the use of carcinogenic dyes or defoliants. The raw organic cotton material is sourced from Benin.

But, to increase the longevity of its socks, Denim Star incorporates a small percentage of nylon (with 80% GOTS organic cotton, 17% nylon and 3% elastane).

“If the sock was 100% organic cotton the socks would soon wear into holes,” Brown insists.

She is, however, actively exploring sustainable alternatives like recycled nylon and elastane to further reduce their environmental impact.

Worker’s Rights and Local Communities: Denim Star actively works with local businesses, such as a family-run factory in the Brescia Valley. This approach not only supports local communities but also enhances the brand’s commitment to ethical production.

Vegan-Friendly: Denim Star proudly adheres to vegan principles, ensuring that its products contain no animal-derived materials.

Packaging and delivery: The primary packaging is made from 100% recycled fibre, which is also fully recyclable.

Delivery is primarily conducted by road and sea between Italy and the UK, reducing emissions associated with air travel.

For worldwide delivery, Denim Star relies on British Royal Mail for domestic parcels and air transportation for international parcels.

Inclusivity: Denim Star actively celebrates age diversity through its social media campaigns. This proactive stance challenges ageist stereotypes within the fashion industry.
